Burning Man Education Symposium

2017, San Francisco, CA

Role:  Assistant Producer

In 2017, the Burning Man’s organization’s Education Team held a 3-day 60-person symposium to consider the future of education and training in the context of Burning Man.  The symposium, which brought together Burning Man employees and specialists from other organizations, utilized an unusual hands-on design format led by the Dutch firm THNK to prompt attendees to think creatively about how to meet the training and education needs for a wide array of different audiences and teams.  I was recruited to the two-person production team to help design and plan the event and then implement all of our plans.

Burning Man’s European Leadership Summit

2017, Stockholm, Sweden

Role:  Event Manager

The European Leadership Summit is a conference held annually by the Burning Man organization.  It brings together 200 community leaders from across Europe for leadership development and skill-sharing while strengthening community ties.  In 2017 the conference took place in three different venues in Stockholm.  I planned the conference remotely from California, then traveled to Stockholm to run the event on the ground with support from a Swedish team.

Throwback Thursday

JCCSF Company Party, 2017, San Francisco, CA

Role:  Decor Lead

For this 250-person bash we picked a theme that would let us play around with three different eras.  I led our decor plan on a shoestring budget and decked out one room each in 70s, 80s, and 90s kitsch.

Party Cruise

JCCSF Company Party, 2015, San Francisco, CA

Role:  Decor Lead

The theme for this 250-person soiree was silly and fun. I was given a small budget and asked to come up with a cruise ship decor plan.

Remix ← → Culture Concert

2014, San Francisco, CA

Role:  Event Manager

Remix ← → Culture is a non-profit organization celebrating musical traditions in harmony with digital remix art. I was brought on to help plan and implement their first event, an innovative show that featured performances by a live Balkan band interspersed with live music video remixes of the band’s tracks by four different local DJs.

Love Letter Scavenger Hunt

2013, San Francisco, CA

Role:  Event Manager

The Love Letter Scavenger Hunt was a labor of love by artist Olga Nunes, in which hundreds of people wandered the Mission District reading love letters and searching for answers to mysterious clues.  In addition to providing a wonderful free Saturday afternoon adventure, the event drew attention to stores that rarely get noticed, with more than 50 local businesses participating.  Olga hired me to implement her vision, trusting me to oversee all the logistics, coordinate the volunteers, troubleshoot on the day of the event, and liaise with the participating business-owners.  (Click here for a video made about the event!)

Yuri’s Night Bay Area at NASA Ames

2007, 2008, 2010, Mountain View, CA

Role:  Greening Lead, Logistics Specialist

Yuri’s Night Bay Area held an art and technology event held on the NASA Ames Research Base in 2007, 2008, and 2010 that grew to include approximately 8,000 attendees.  The event brought together artists, technologists, educators, musicians, dancers, and families. My role in the event was to facilitate smooth staff communications from set-up through strike, direct volunteers, and act as general logistical trouble-shooter. In 2010 I also oversaw greening efforts for the event.  A video from the 2010 event can be viewed here.
